RSI on the Rise in UK

March 5th, 2008  |  Published in RSI in the News

According to an article in Exeter, England’s “Express & Echo” newspaper:

Physiotherapists are urging employers to protect staff from Repetitive Strain Injury after discovering some 27,000 workers in the South West are suffering from the disorder. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy says there is now more RSI across the country than ever before.

An estimated 3.5 million working days were lost in 2006-07 because of RSI, with each person affected taking more than 13 days off sick.

In the South West, seven people out of every 1,000 are affected by RSI. The most affected groups are plumbers, carpenters and painters in construction, nurses and paramedics in the health service and plant and machine operatives. The jobs with lowest rates were security guards, waiters and cleaners and professionals such as financial analysts, estate agents and inspectors.
