I-ROCKS Illuminated Keyboard Review

February 5th, 2006  |  Published in RSI Products  |  Tags: keyboards

Rick Yaeger of MacMerc.com offers up a review of the I-ROCKS i-mini EL X-Slim (KR-6810M) illuminated keyboard, a portable USB keyboard which offers a backlight for the keys, allowing you to more easily type in the dark.

The manufacturer claims that “Ergonomic contour keeps you away from the pain and strain by its low-profile keystroke.” I’m not even sure what that sentence means, exactly, but the ergonomic benefits of this keyboard appear to amount to a few points:

  • The keyboard is small, minimizing the distance your fingers have to travel to reach all the keys.
  • The keys require very little force to register a keypress.
  • The lit-up keys may reduce eye strain, compared to using a regular keyboard ina dimly-lit space.

Beyond these minor features, the remainder of the keyboard is not particularly ergonomic, but that’s not the real point of this keyboard. Mostly this is just a semi-cool gee-whiz gadget, probably not the worst keyboard you can buy, but certainly not the best. It does work with either Mac or Windows computers.
